Corpus Christi Sunday

Processional Hymn 219

1 Humbly we adore Thee, ever present Lord,
Father, Son and Spirit, Truth and living Word;
Take our hearts as offering, wholly Thine to be;
Take our hearts and souls surrendered unto Thee.

2 Bread and wine memorial of our risen Lord,
Who in death has offered life as our reward;
Bread of life to all mankind, every breath You give,
Grant that by Thy life our longing spirits live.

3 Taste and touch and vision to discern Thee fail;
Faith, that comes by hearing, pierces through the veil.
Face to face Thy splendor I, at last, shall see;
In the glorious vision, Blessed Lord, of Thee.

4 Christ, our Lord, we bless Thee, for this wondrous Bread.
In our land Thou dwellest, by Thee we are fed.
We who share this myst'ry in Thee are made one,
ev'ry act we offer, in Thy name is done.

5 Now with glad thanksgiving, praise Christ glorified.
He is in us present in Him we abide.
Members of His body, we in Him are one,
Hail this sacred union, heav'n on earth begun!. Amen.

The Collect

    O CHRIST our holy Lord, who in this wonderful sacrament of the altar has given unto us the grace of thy perpetual presence and an abiding memorial of thy surpassing love; grant us so to receive this thy most precious gift, that our hearts may be pure in thy sight and our lives ever dedicated to thy service, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God throughout all ages of ages.  Amen.

The Epistle

    The epistle is taken from the eleventh chapter of the First Epistle of St. Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians, beginning at the twenty-third verse.

       FOR I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. And when he had given thanks, he brake it and said: Take, eat; this is my Body, which is broken for you; this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying: This cup is the new testament in my Blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.

The Gospel

   The holy gospel is taken from the twenty-sixth chapter of the Gospel according to St Matthew, beginning at the seventeenth verse.

    NOW on the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said: Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him: The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying: Drink ye all of it; for this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

Offertory Hymn 32

1 ETERNAL King of Glory,
Most dear and Holy Lord,
Our song of adoration
We raise in glad accord.
Thou art the God Who made us,
Our life is all from Thee;
Thy sacrifice supernal
has caused the world to be.

2 Thou hast not left us helpless,
For to Thy mystic Bride,
The Church which Though hast founded,
Our Mother true and tried,
Thou pourest out Thy blessing,
Effulgent as the seas,
A Boundless benediction
On all who follow Thee.

3 Thy love is all around us;
Its rays are thoushandfold;
It meets us in our Baptism
Our weakness to uphold.
Brightest of all it floweth
When on Thine Altar-shrine
Thy very self Though givest
In form of Bread and Wine.

4 O Eucharist Most Holy,
Sweet Sacrament Divine!
O Christ, both Priest and Victim,
How glorious dost Thou shine!
We hail Thee, praise Thee, bless Thee,
We worship and adore;
O grant us power and wisdom
To love Thee more and more! Amen.

Adeste Fideles

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold him; Monarch of the Angels;
O come let us adore him; O come let us adore him;
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

God of God, Light of Light,
Yet under earthly forms his Light he veils,
Very God, alone-born of the Father;
O come let us adore him; etc.

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above;
Glory to God in the highest;
O come, let us adore him; etc.

Yea, Lord, we greet thee, throned on thine altar;
Ever to the be highest glory given.
Word of the Father, splendour everlasting;
O come, let us adore him, etc.

Recessional Hymn 65

1 O KING of Kings, Whose knights we are
In uttermost devotion,
Thy glory flames from star to star
Across Thy love's vast ocean;
Yet Thou dost deign to meet us here,
Reigning upon Thine Altar;
Thy royal Present we revere
With love that shall not falter.

2 Thou restest, Mystery profound,
Veiling Thy heavenly splendour;
Attendant Angels gather round,
Their mighty aid to render,
Within the Church's sacred fane
The mystic forms creating'
O stir our hearts, to serve Thee here
With ardour unabating.

3 Hail, Mystic Light! Hail, Sacred Fire
Upon the Altar glowing,
Enflame our hearts with high desire,
All valiant gifts bestowing,
Be Thou our strength to right the wrong,
All pause or respite scorning,
Our beacon through the lonely night,
Till He shall bring the morning.

4 The Holy Cross again we take,
The Knightly weapon bearing,
So press we onward to the fight,
The night of evil daring.
Hail, Mystic Bread! Hail, Holy Cup!
O purest Peace, descending!
Vouchsafe O Lord, continuing Light,
And Life in Thee unending.

5 All glory to the Father's name
And to the Son all glory;
The Holy Spirit, heavenly Flame,
Shares in the wondrous story.
With praise of Thee, great Three in One,
In every land beneath the sun
Thy Church to Thee is singing. Amen
